There is an enzyme that can dissolve the hyaluronic acid molecules, called hyaluronidase. Hyaluronidase can be injected into the hyaluronic acid filler so that it is (partially) dissolved and removed by the body more quickly. Usually the effect is immediately visible and in any case visible within a few days.
Sometimes it is necessary to repeat the treatment, especially if the filler was treated carefully in the first instance so as not to dissolve the filler 100%. It may then be that too little hyaluronidase has been injected, but it is better to treat twice than to dissolve too much the first time - unless it is desired that the filler is completely removed.
A possible disadvantage is that hyaluronidase can also dissolve the normally present hyaluronic acid in the skin. It is therefore important that hyaluronidase is injected into the filler as much as possible. Incidentally, any degraded natural hyaluronic acid will be regenerated by the skin over time.
